This activity was designed with a fourth grade standard in mind. The students will look at two visual models and justify if they are equivalent or not. This is a great activity for independent work, small groups, math rotation stations, and/or remediation. 4.NSF.1 Explain why a fraction (i.e., denominators 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 25, 100), a/b , is equivalent to a fraction, nxa/nxb, by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
