Objective: Decode short-vowel words and associate them with pictures Introduce the test. Ask children to find the box with the star in the corner. Explain that the picture shows a cat taking a nap. Have children read aloud the three words in the box. Tell them to point to the word that tells about the picture. Point out that the circle below nap is filled in to show it is the correct answer. Start the test. Say the instructions: "Look at the picture in each box. Read the three words in the box. Fill in the circle below the word that tells about the picture." Monitor as children take the test. Repeat the instructions or identify pictures for individual children as needed.
