Before using this activity explain to students that each person has their own strengths that make them who they are and are valuable to their school and home communities. Share that strengths are tasks or actions students can do well. These include knowledge, proficiencies, skills, and talents. People use their traits and abilities to complete work, relate with others, and achieve goals. Review the following key vocabulary words with students: Qualities- characteristics, traits, or features that make a person or thing what it is. Ex: One of the qualities of ice is cold. Passionate- having or showing strong emotions. To be passionate about something is to feel strong emotions or love something. Ex: She gave a passionate speech against leaving plastic straws on the beach. Utilize- to embrace and put something to a specific use. Ex: The poet utilizes descriptive words to help the reader visualize the poem in their head. Success- a thing that goes well. Success at the end of the year could also mean the reaching of something desired like a goal at the end of the year. Ex: After many failures, he finally had success at tying his shoes by himself.
