Photograph Analysis

Grades: 6th Grade, 8th Grade, 7th Grade
Subjects: Art

Student Instructions

As part of your Art Journal you need to analyse a photograph. 1.)Choose a photograph from Google to analyse and take a 'screenshot' 2.)Using the shape tool Break the photograph into the 'rule of thirds' (9 equal sections) 3.)With this grid in mind the ‘rule of thirds’ look at the intersecting points for a point of interest/focus. Identify the important parts of the image and the points of interest. 3.) Also look at the four ‘lines’. These are useful positions for elements in your photo. The theory is that if you place points of interest in the intersections or along the lines that your photo becomes more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally. 4.) Use the text tool to analyse the photograph 5.) Post to your journal 4.) Discuss the balance and composition of the photograph you have selected.
