Student Instructions
If you can think it, you can write it. If you can write it, you can read it. Use these maps to compose (write) a story. 1. Brainstorm (think) a topic or book that you have an opinion (thought or feeling about something) you would like to share with others. Select or tools to add topics or books you would like to share about on the circle map. 2. Choose one topic or book from the circle map to write about. 3. Now use the green, yellow, and red boxes to share the the reasons for your opinion about the book or topic. Use or tools to add your reasons. 4. Now use or tools to add linking words or phrases on the green, yellow, and red lines. Use the anchor chart if you need some extra support. 5. Tap the or tools to add a closing to your writing map. 6. Use the information on your maps to write your story. Use the to illustrate your thinking in the box at the top of the page or a picture. 7. Reflect on your work. Use or a to put an X or star in the box to show the things you have done on the checklist. 8. Use the to read your story if you would like to share it. 9. Select the when you are finished or select to save your work as you complete your writing task.
Teaching students the writing process is crucial. Using maps or organizers helps students think about the topic and organize details as they compose writing pieces. This document was designed to help students express their thoughts on paper and revisit the maps to ensure details are included in the selection to support their opinion. The map is color coded to help students connect their reasons and examples/evidences that support their opinion or ideas.
