Set in Northern Australia before World War II, Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) is an English aristocrat who inherits a vast cattle station, Faraway Downs. Under threat from other cattle barons, she is helped by an Australian, known as Drover (Hugh Jackman), with whom she falls in love. Together they drive herds of cattle across the harsh landscape of the Northern Territory but get caught up in the bombing of Darwin.
