Teacher Notes (not visible to pupils)

This is a fun activity for students to explore these interactive music apps. None of these apps require students or teachers to input any personal data or use of logins. Students can work independently on this activity or it can be used as part of other class activities. Just a few of my favourite things about the apps: - TYPEATONE encourages literacy skills as students write words and/or sentences to hear the musical loops/patterns created by the app. The selection of sound options encourages thinking and reflection skills as students make choices and explain their reasons for making a musical choice. The patterns can be downloaded or shared so it can be used in conjunction with other apps or platforms (eg. Soundtrap, Garageband). - PLAY IT! is a fantastic app by the BBC. Students can explore the different elements that make up a song, play or clap along with the music and then listen back to their own version of songs. It shows how songs are put together in terms of instrumental layers (singing, instruments, rhythm) and allows students to click/unclick different parts so they can hear what the song is like if you remove/add parts. There is a selection of songs to play with. Lesson plans can be found in this website https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/bring-the-noise - BEASTBOX - I love the cross-curricular aspects to this app as students explore different ecosystems whilst exploring the creation of loops and beatboxing using real animal sounds! Students can unlock new hip-hop tracks by choosing the correct animals from a particular ecosystem.
