Using Area to Build a Dream House

Grades: 4th Grade, 5th Grade, 3rd Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

Today you will use what you have learned in calculating area to 'build' your dream house. First, you need to start with a floor plan. Directions: 1. Click add to add the template to your canvas. 2. Carefully read the directions on page 1. 3. Use the pencil or the pen to create your floor plan. 4. Your floor plans must include a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and at least one bedroom. You may also include other rooms such as a media/theater room, a craft room, a laundry room, or additional bedrooms. Do you need to add hallways to get into the rooms? 5. Use the pencil to label the dimensions of each room (let's use feet) on your house plan/diagram. 6. After you have created your plan, list the area of each room and the total area of your house on the workspace on page 1. 7. Check those numbers! 8. Click check to turn in this activity.
