Piet Mondrian Project! (Area of Rectangles)

Grades: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

Directions: Create a Piet Mondrian-inspired work of art! Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter. He is regarded as one of the great artists of the 20th century and is known for being a pioneer of abstract art. He was born in the Netherlands in 1872 and died in 1944. Over his lifetime, he created about 250 paintings. Although he is most famous for his paintings of white and primary colored rectangles, he began painting scenes found in real life. Your piece needs to have at least six different shaped rectangles. (A 3x4 rectangle is considered different than a 4x3 for this project.) Please label the dimensions (length / width) and the area. You can include thick black lines (that are 1 square thick), thin lines that just go over the grid paper lines, or no lines at all! You should be using the shapes option! See the attached example for some more inspiration.
