Year Groups: 4th Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade
Subjects: STEAM, Art, Math

Instructions for Pupils

Scratch board is a type of artwork where an image is created by etching or scratching into a surface to show a different material or color underneath. We are going to make a digital version by using the eraser to remove the black surface and show color underneath. 1. Look at the examples of balance on page one. 2. Click Add Response add and choose a page: Page 1: Rainbow Page 2: Gold Page 3: Silver 3. Use the eraser eraser tool to "etch" a picture that shows Symetrical, Radial or Asymetrical Balance. 4. Click the Green Check check when you are finished Optional: Learn to make your own DIY Scratchboard at home! https://safeYouTube.net/w/9fpF

Teacher Notes (not visible to pupils)

The virtual scratch boards in this project could be used to do any drawing, it does not have to be used to review balance. Students or teachers can also create their own. I just made my own rainbow and metallic background using my own computer drawing software. I then uploaded it, and locked it. Once it was locked I painted over the entire picture with the black maker tool. I had a student create their own and they loved it! The fine art images I used to review balance were found on the sites listed with the artist and title information.
