Mog the cat, sets of a series of events which nearly ruins Christmas for the Thomas family. Mog was having a nightmare which made her swing her tail which got tangled up in the Christmas lights. The moving lights then caused the cards to all fall over. (effect) The cause is why something happened and the effect is what happened.
