A SIMILE is a type of figurative language. Writers use figurative language to help communicate meaning to the reader. Specifically, a simile is when a writer compares two things (using "like" or "as") that have something in common.
The author's TONE is the attitude, emotion, or persona they adopt toward their subject and audience, conveyed through word choice (diction), sentence structure, and style. It reveals the author's feelings—such as humorous, serious, or critical—and helps shape the reader's perception and understanding of the text.
