This activity uses a short video to introduce action verbs and the eight being verbs. Pages include a simple open response, three short drag-and-drop assessments, and a creative show-and-tell so students can express understanding in different ways. Prep: queue the video, ensure students can record voice or video, and have drawing tools available. For open-ended responses: a high-quality answer for the "Think About It" prompt names a specific verb or idea learned (for example, "I learned that 'run' is an action verb") and asks a clear, relevant question (for example, "Is 'sleep' always an action verb?"). For the "Show It" prompt, strong responses demonstrate the difference between action and being verbs (through a drawing with labels, a short video acting out an action verb and saying a being verb, or a voice recording explaining both). Teachers should mark these open responses correct if the student shows an accurate understanding of action versus being verbs and incorrect if their response shows misunderstanding or no relation to verbs.
