Build a Farm Sanctuary (extension activity for Hope by Randy Houk)

Year Groups: 1st Grade, 3rd Grade, 2nd Grade
Subjects: Character Building, Art, Science

Instructions for Pupils

For this activity, you are going to pretend that you run a farm sanctuary. Farm sanctuaries are places where rescued farm animals like cows, pigs, and chickens live. They are different from a normal farm because the animals are never used for food, and live out their natural lives there. Your farm sanctuary has just rescued a pig, who was sadly found abandoned in a dumpster. 1. You will use play dough to create a home for the new pig. 2. Your home must include all 6 things a pig needs to be happy and healthy, which are: (1) friends, (2) water, (3) mud, (4) food, (5) shelter, and (6) space. 3. Take a photo of your pig's home when you are finished. Additional background building: would you like to learn more about what a farm sanctuary is?
