If you can think it, you can write it. If you can write it, you can read it. Use these maps to compose (write) a story. 1. Choose a topic/experience. Brainstorm (think) what you know about a topic/experience. Tap the or to add your thoughts to the circle map. 2. Now choose three of the details from the circle map to write about. Tap the or to add one detail to each box on the sequence/event map. 3. Now use the green, yellow, and red box to add more details about the events by tapping the or the . 4. Add transition words using a or to the green, yellow, and red lines. Transition words help to sequence information. Some examples are first, next, then, last, and finally. 5. Tap the or to add a closing sentence to your writing map. 6. Use the information on your maps to write your story. Use the to illustrate your thinking in the box at the top of each page or upload a . 7. Use to put an X in the box to show the things you have done on the checklist. 8. Use the to read your story if you would like to share it. 9. Select the when you are finished or select the draft button to save your work as you complete the writing process.
Teaching students the writing process is crucial. Using maps or organizers helps students think about the topic and organize details as they compose writing pieces. This document was designed to help students express their thoughts on paper and revisit the maps to ensure details are included in the selection. The map is color coded to help students keep events and details explaining more about the event connected.
