Student Instructions

An ONSET is the consonant or consonant blend at the beginning of a word that comes before the first vowel. It can be 1-3 letters long. (Example: in the word cash, the onset is "c". In the word flash, the onset is "fl". In the word splash, the onset is "spl".) A RIME begins with the first vowel and continues to the end of the syllable. (Example: in the words cash, flash, and splash, the rime for all three is "ash"). DIRECTIONS FOR ACTIVITY: 1. For each word, you can click the speaker to hear the word read. 2. Then, circle the onset and underline the rime in each word. 3. Be sure to do all 4 pages. 4. Click the check when you're finished.
