When we read, we can make inferences to help us better understand what we are reading. We stop and think about what we are reading. An inference is figuring out a big idea that may not be written in the story. We are like story detectives - We use what we already know, and clue words and details that are in the story to figure out big ideas. Look for what the characters do, what the characters say, or how they act to help us learn more about the characters and the story. What are your wondering about what you are reading? to learn more about inferences, read the story and practice making inferences. On page 1, write about the inferences in the story. On page 2, after reading one of your stories, write about the inferences you made in your story. to explain the clues and what the clues made you think about that is not written in your story - your inferences.
