Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

Students have had several Christmas books read to them prior to this activity - traditional North Pole stories and Australian themed books (notably - Socks for Santa by Adam Guillain and Santa's Aussie Holiday by Maria Farrer). Discussion was had about hemispheres, how the Equator divides the Earth and the seasons are opposite to each other in the two hemispheres. Students were encouraged to think about the seasonal differences and various emojis that could match each season (in another Seesaw activity). This activity asks them to draw some design ideas for an outfit for Santa that suits an Aussie Christmas. After this, students will complete a cut and paste 'paper doll' type activity where they must use their design to make an outfit for Santa (using wrapping paper and tinsel). They will then photograph their work and upload to Seesaw with a voice recording, explaining the benefits of their outfit on a hot summer day. This series of lessons has been planned for approx 5 weeks.
