Objective: Read th, wh, ng, and le words with accuracy and automaticity Introduce the test. Give the child the Student Page for the test. Explain that this test has words for the child to read aloud to you. Start the test. Say the instructions: Read aloud the word in each box in order from 1 to 10. When you finish reading a word, move to the next box and read aloud that word. Let’s begin. Read aloud the word in box 1. If needed, you can prompt the child to read the next word by naming the number of the box that has the word. Monitor and record observations. As the child reads, follow along on the Teacher’s Recording Sheet. Mark any words the child reads incorrectly or takes more than a few seconds to read. If the child cannot read a word after struggling for more than five seconds, say the word and circle it as an error. Complete the scoring line as explained on the Teacher’s Recording Sheet. 60
