Instructions for Pupils

Did you know Hawaii is not a country? It is an island that is a state of the USA (the way Tasmania is one state of Australia). In Hawaii they have a big surfing culture, because Hawaii is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and big waves crash on its beaches. Although Hawaiians are technically American, they like to call themselves Hawaiians. In Hawaii the culture is unique. The traditions are ancient, and they have their own music, dance and art. Today we are learning to draw one of the animals that is respected and treasured in Hawaii.. the Sea Turtle. Sea Turtles are often used on Hawaiian art as a symbol of the beauty and power of the ocean. Watch the 10 minute YouTube tutorial link to create your very own realistic Sea Turtle. You can press pause at any time, so you can catch up on the drawing, or go to get materials. You'll need: good quality black texta white paper coloured pencils or crayons You may like to play some Hawaiian background music while you're working, to get into the Hawaiian mood!
